Some Qualifications Cost Nothing.

Any member of the DES wishing to take their, Walking Group Leader Award, Mountain Leadership and SPA certificates can now get them absolutely free. Although at present each member pays for half of the initial training course this money can be recouped on successful completion of the assessment. This would also include any costs as a result of deferrals.

Why is the DES being so generous?

Simply the DES requires:

1) Leaders and assistant leaders for expeditions.
2) Leaders on outdoor activities on school weekend trips ad social projects involving DES participation.

Why Walking Group Leader Award?

The Walking Group Leader Award is one of the minimum qualification required by leaders wishing to take groups on any Moorland in the UK. It covers such popular activities as trekking, night walks and mountain biking.

Why ML? (Mountain Leadership)

The ML is the natural progression after the Walking Group Leader Award. The skills learnt on this course prepare leaders with much of the expertise required for leading major expeditions.

Why SPA? (Single Pitch Assessment)

Although teachers and helpers are normally insured against accidents on school trips the SPA is increasingly becoming the appropriate qualification required by schools for climbing and abseiling.
